JUST IN: Bayelsa APC stakeholders withdraw support for Sylva, back Gov Diri’s re-election bid

The Bayelsa APC Professionals and Stakeholders Group, a notable and influential body within the All Progressives Congress (APC), has declared a pivotal shift in their political allegiance in preparation for the upcoming governorship election slated for November 11, 2023, in Bayelsa State.

In a statement signed by the group’s Secretary General, Dr Emmanuel Akpodigha, the group announced a significant loss of confidence in the APC’s governorship candidate, Chief Timipre Sylva, prompting a decisive change in their support.

The statement emphasized their decision due to thoughtful consideration and a profound concern for the state’s future.

Part of the statement read: “We have totally lost confidence in the governorship candidate of our party APC, Chief Timipre Sylva, and his capacity to win the forthcoming governorship election in our state, and have decided to throw our support behind the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the incumbent Governor of our state, Senator Douye Diri.”

Highlighting their observation of recent political developments and the demeanour of the APC candidate, the Bayelsa APC Professionals and Stakeholders Group voiced dismay over the campaign’s trajectory and the public response to Sylva’s candidacy.

Citing the need for visionary and unifying leadership in Bayelsa State, the group expressed their disillusionment with Sylva’s divisive politics and questionable leadership qualities. Conversely, they commended Senator Diri’s track record and leadership attributes since assuming the state’s leadership.

The statement recognized Diri’s alignment with the people’s aspirations and ”confidence in his ability to unite and guide the state toward progress.”

The group urged its members, supporters, and the public to back Senator Douye Diri and the PDP in the forthcoming governorship election, citing their commitment to Bayelsa’s prosperity and well-being.
