JUST IN: FG announces date for resumption of Abuja-Kaduna train services

The Federal Government on Monday announced that train services on the Abuja-Kaduna rail line will resume in November 2022.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Mu’azu Sambo, the Minister of Transportation, made this disclosure while giving the score-card of his ministry in Abuja.

According to him, adequate security has been put in place to ensure the safety of passengers.

Recall that in March, gangs of heavily armed men, known locally as bandits, infamously attacked an urban train heading to Kaduna from Abuja with dozens of passengers. Some of the passengers were killed, while many others were abducted.

The incident occurred in the broader context of the Nigerian bandit conflict and took place two days after a bandit raid at Kaduna Airport, in which two personnel from the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) were slain and several other workers were kidnapped.

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) suspended operations on the route on March 29.

Going by media reports and family sources, the criminals received over N6 billion in ransom payments.
