JUST IN: Gunmen attack Celestial Church, kill worshippers [PHOTO]

Two worshippers have been killed while three others were injured as gunmen numbering about six attacked a Celestial Church located in Felele area of Lokoja in Kogi State, North-central Nigeria.

POLITICS NIGERIA learned that the attack occurred on Sunday night.

The Celestial Church, Blood of Jesus Chapel, is located behind the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) Mega petrol station in Felele.

Many worshippers scampered for safety as the assailants opened fire.

This newspaper gathered that people who sustained gunshot wounds from the attack have been taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Lokoja.

As of the time of publishing this report, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack. But the Islamic State franchise, ISWAP, has already announced its presence in Kogi State.

William Aya, the police spokesperson in Kogi State, confirmed the deadly shooting.

He disclosed that Edward Egbuka, the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Police Command, has ordered an investigation.

“The incident happened. Two people have been confirmed dead, three people are currently treatment,” Aya said.

The attack is coming three weeks after a worship centre, New Life Gospel Church, in Sariki Noma, a suburb of Lokoja, was attacked during a night vigil injuring several worshippers. Armed robbers were blamed for the attack.
