JUST IN: ISWAP kills CJTF member, burns 4 patrol vehicles in Borno


At least one member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) has been killed while four others were injured in a midnight raid by the Islamic State of the West African Province (ISWAP), in Benisheik, a village in Kaga Local Government Area (LGA) of Borno State.

POLITICS NIGERIA learned that the insurgents sneaked into the town on motorcycles at about 3:30 am on Monday before engaging security agents in a heavy gun battle.

Details of the attack are still sketchy, but this newspaper gathered that the terrorists of the Boko Haram splinter overpowered security personnel, killing one of them. They then proceeded to set ablaze four patrol vehicles.

Northeast Nigeria has been in the grip of rebellions for more than a decade.

Across Nigeria, there has been a rise in crime and violence. More than 35,000 people have been killed in northern Nigeria since 2009 when Boko Haram launched its insurgency aimed at overthrowing Nigeria’s secular government and establishing an Islamic state.
