The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has initiated the enrollment of vulnerable pregnant women into the Federal Capital Territory Health Insurance Scheme (FHIS).

The enrollment, aimed at providing affordable and accessible healthcare for pregnant women, was flagged off in Abuja.

Dolapo Fasawe, the Mandate Secretary of Health Services and Environment of the FCTA disclosed that all pregnant enrollees would receive a free safe delivery kit as part of the initiative.

The FHIS enrollment was officially launched at a ceremony attended by the Minister of State for FCT, Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure.

The Minister of State commended the government’s efforts to make the health insurance scheme a reality, emphasizing that the available funds would enable enrollees to access quality healthcare services without financial constraints.

Over 1,500 pregnant women were registered during the ceremony, and 500 safe delivery kits were distributed to enrolled women.

The safe delivery kits include sterile instruments to ensure the safety of both mothers and newborns during childbirth.

She emphasized that with an annual premium payment of N13,500, individuals and families can access quality healthcare services.
