Women in black attire have taken to the streets of Tafawa Balewa town in Bauchi State, Northeast Nigeria, for the fifth day in a row.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the protesters are demanding the release of their paramount ruler, Ishaku Komo, who is currently in police custody.
Komo was arrested along with six others for their alleged involvement in the communal crisis that erupted in Sang Village in Bogoro LGA two weeks ago over the coronation of a Hamlet Head.
The communal crisis resulted in the death of a 70-year-old man, while several people sustained various degrees of injuries and 74 houses, shops, and three motorcycles were burnt down.
The protesters held leaves and branches of trees and carried placards and banners with various inscriptions, demanding the release of their monarch.
During the protest, the women sang songs and walked for several hours, closing shops and businesses and barricading major roads leading in and out of Tafawa Balewa town.
This newspaper learnt that the Bauchi State Police Command had previously insisted that the detained monarch and the other six people have a case to answer over the incident.
