The Nigerian Army’s troops’ Operation Desert Sanity on Saturday thwarted ambush attack by Boko Haram/Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in Mandagarau along Damboa to Biu road in Borno state, northeast region.

POLITICS NIGERIA learnt that the troops who were on a patrol, intercepted the communication of the terrorists on their mission to plant an Improvised Explosive Device (IEDs) against Nigerian security agents.

The insurgents also planned to attack troops as soon as they succeeded in detonating the IEDs. However, the troops thwarted the plans after they stormed the scene. Consequently, on sighting the troops, the terrorists abandoned their mission and fled into the bush in different directions on their motorcycles, leaving their IEDs materials.

The troops later cleared the IEDs and facilitated safe passage of commuters to their various destinations.
