JUST IN: Panic as IPMAN Shuts Filling Stations in Anambra, Gives Reason

Filling stations across major towns in Anambra State have been closed down by the Independent Petroleum Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), sparking panic among residents.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Mr. Chinedu Anyaso, Chairman of IPMAN’s Enugu depot, which covers six states including Anambra, in a statement clarified that the shutdown was not intended to inflict harm or increase petrol prices, contrary to speculations. Instead, he said the measure was taken to ensure that all IPMAN members attended an emergency general meeting scheduled to take place in Awka.

Addressing the media in Awka, Anyaso explained that the emergency meeting aimed to discuss the recent marking of approximately 16 filling stations in Ekwulobia. These stations were marked for demolition by the Anambra State government to make way for the proposed construction of a flyover in the town.

“Our members are willing to comply with the government’s directive. However, there is a pressing need for the government to reach an agreement with our members regarding compensation, as these facilities serve as their sole source of income,” Anyaso emphasised.

He further stated that a letter had been sent to the Anambra State Government concerning the matter, but no response had been received yet. Hence, the meeting was arranged to explore ways to engage with the government and advocate for the best interests of IPMAN members and the public relying on their services.
