The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has reacted to the rape and murder of a 100-level student of the University of Benin, Uwaila Omozuwa.
This news medium reports that Omozuwa was raped and murdered by hoodlums inside the auditorium of RCCG, Miracle Sanctuary Mega Parish, Edo Province 10, in Benin City on May 27.
It was learned the men made their way into the church and struck her in the head with a fire extinguisher, raped her, and left her dead. This has however caused a stir on social media as many Nigerians demand justice for the deceased using the hashtag #JusticeforUwa on Sunday.
But in a statement on Sunday night via the church’s verified Facebook page, Adeboye has vowed to bring the abusers and killers of the student to book.
The cleric noted that he will work with relevant security authorities in order to arrest the culprits, saying that he will not relent until justice is served.
Adeboye also condoled with the family of the deceased, praying that God will give them the fortitude to bear the loss.
“Preliminary information reaching us confirms the death of Miss Vera Uwaila Omozuwa, a 100 level student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN),” the statement read in part.
“The 22-year-old member who died as a result of complications from the ugly incident
“As a church, we are deeply touched and condemn in absolute terms this evil visited on an innocent girl as we have equally condemned any act of violence and abuse against women.
“We’re consulting the appropriate authorities to ensure that an extensive investigation is carried out in line with the position already expressed by the Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki.
“The culprit(s) face the full weight of the law and justice is done regardless of who is involved.”
