JUST IN: PDP reacts to Rivers local govt leadership crisis

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reacted to the ongoing local government leadership crisis rocking Rivers State.

In a statement on Wednesday by its spokesperson, Debo Ologunagba, the party cautioned the outgone Rivers State local government chairmen against any conduct capable of disrupting the peace in the State.

According to him, the PDP notes that the three-year tenure in office of the former local government executive councils in the state has expired.

This, he explained, was due to the effluxion of time under the relevant State Law establishing the Rivers State Local Government Council Administration.

“The PDP therefore counsels the former Rivers State Local Government Council Chairmen to desist from any action that may constitute disruption in Local Government administration in the State,” Ologunagba said.

“The Party calls on the people of Rivers State to remain calm, law-abiding and continue to work together for the continued stability, peace and delivery of democracy dividends in Rivers State.”

Meanwhile, Governor Sim Fubara has sworn in new caretaker chairmen for the 23 local government areas of the state.

The swearing-in was done on Wednesday at the Government House in Port Harcourt, the state capital amid tight security.
