JUST IN: Sanwoolu speaks on ethnic division ahead of Lagos election

As Nigeria prepares for its next round of elections, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos, on Wednesday condemned the seeming ethnic division between Yoruba and Igbo people in his state.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Nigerians on social media are speaking out against ethnic sentiments that may lead to a catastrophe in the political landscape.

Election talks in Lagos State had taken ethnic colours on social media, especially after the state’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), could not deliver to the party’s presidential flag-bearer in the February 25 presidential election.

Governor Sanwo-Olu joined many Nigerians in expressing his disappointment with the ethnic sentiments being brought into the 2023 election.

He said while speaking on Arise TV: “It is condemnable. It is not acceptable. We are Nigerians, we are human beings. Nobody has that domineering thing.

“So the ethnic colouration is not something I would push for. But I understand that in local communities, there are local issues that people want to preserve.”
