JUST IN: Sowore speaks on Orji Kalu’s Supreme Court victory

Former presidential candidate and the convener of the Coalition for Revolution (CORE), Omoyele Sowore, has reacted to the Supreme Court judgement that granted Orji Kalu freedom.

On Friday, the apex court ruled that the former Abia Governor, who was convicted and jailed for corrupt practices should be released from Prison.

POLITICS NIGERIA reported how Justice Eko nullified the initial trial on the basis that Mr Idris was already a Justice of the Court of Appeal as at the time he delivered the judgment sentencing the appellants in December.

He further held that a Justice of the Court of Appeal cannot operate as a judge of the Federal High Court, hence, ordering the retrial of Mr Kalu.

Although legal experts have affirmed the validity of the apex court’s verdict, many Nigerians have opined that the technicalities played out for political reasons.

Reacting to the judgement, Mr Sowore held that the Nigerian judiciary does not serve justice as expected of the institution.

“Nigerian judiciary as a purveyor of “just us” instead of justice. In just one week we found out their kids, wards/relatives populated a new list of judges; they found a judge to jail a 70-year-old who insulted @mBuhari & a full panel of Supreme Court justices to free Orji &Buruji,” he wrote on Friday afternoon.

  1. A day of reckoning is ahead. Justice would be served appropriately to all those who have brought this country to this level. And that would be God’s justice!
