JUST IN: Tension Mounts in Agbor, Delta State as Gunmen Kidnap Two Nigerian Railway Corporation Staff

Emerging reports has it that gunmen have kidnapped two Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) staff members in Agbor, Delta State.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports the incident has caused panic and apprehension within the community.

The abducted individuals are Peter Osazuwa, a Level 10 officer in the Operations and Commercial Department, and Giwa Mohammed, a Level Nine Officer from Kwara State, working in the Stores and Procurement Department.

According to a source within the NRC, the victims were employees of the Warri-Itakpe train service stationed in Agbor, The Punch Newspaper reports.

The kidnapping occurred a short distance from the Owa-Alero ancestral residence of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa in the town of Owa-Oyibu.

This newspaper learnt that the victims were returning from a food shopping trip when they were ambushed at the junction leading to the Abavo market. The gunmen vandalised the vehicle’s tires and shattered the windshield before forcibly abducting the victims.

The source added, “Recently, the kidnappers contacted individuals close to the Agbor train station and demanded a ransom of N40 million.”

The incident has caused widespread fear and unease throughout the entire Agbor community.

This newspaper also learnt that efforts to reach out to the Managing Director/Chief Executive of NRC, Fidet Okhiria, and his Personal Assistant, Dennis Ujah, for comments were unsuccessful.

Also, it is understood that when approached for a statement, Yakubu Mahmood, the spokesperson for NRC, mentioned that it was a security issue and he would provide a response later.

However, it has been learned that the NRC management has been briefed about the situation and is taking necessary action.

Olanrewaju Oke, the Public Relations Officer for NRC in Agbor Station, confirmed that the police and other security agencies are handling the matter.

He stated that the incident had been reported to the management.

He said, “The incident has been reported to management, and I can’t tell you anything because the MD is not around. I can’t tell you something I don’t have details. But the police and security agencies are on top of it.

“The matter is under investigation.”
