Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has shed light on his recent meeting with embattled Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki.
It will be recalled that Obaseki had a private meeting with Wike in Port Harcourt on Sunday fuelling rumours of his possible defection to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP after being disqualified by the APC.
Obaseki made headlines after his party, the APC disqualified him from contesting the party’s primaries scheduled for June 22nd. However, on Monday, while addressing questions from Journalists in the statehouse in Port-Harcourt, wike revealed that his meeting with Obaseki was not about ‘any defection’.
He said no decision of such was taken during their private meeting in Port-Harcourt on Sunday. He also lashed out at the Nigerian Governors Forum for failing to speak out against the disqualification of Obaseki.
He accused the group of championing the agenda of the APC even though its a multi-party, national organization.
Wike disclosed that Obaseki was welcome to the PDP if he seeks to join adding that the choice of who becomes the party’s flagbearer in the upcoming Edo elections is dependent on the state chapter of the party.
