Katsina govt doles out N6 million to families of security agents killed by bandits

The Katsina State Government has gifted N6 million to the families of four police officers alongside three members of the Katsina Security Watch Corps who were recently ambushed and killed by bandits.

The attack occurred in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State on Sunday, June 8.

The state governor, Dikko Radda, directed that N500,000 be presented to each of the deceased police officers’ families and N1,000,000 each to the families of the deceased Katsina Security Watch Corps members.

The state commissioner for special duties, Isah Mohammed Kankara, led the government delegation to the Katsina Police Command Headquarters on Thursday to deliver the gift and condole with the state commissioner of police and families of the deceased over the tragic loss, describing the situation as unfortunate and inhumane.

Kankara while delivering the gift of three million naira for the families of the four police officers who were killed on Sunday and two other officers who were also killed recently in Safana and Sabuwa LGAs, however, expressed worry that lives are lost daily in Kankara, Safana, and Danmusa local government areas.

He, therefore, acknowledged the commitment and dedication of the deceased officers in the ongoing onslaught against banditry, cattle rustling, and kidnapping for ransom especially in the frontline LGAs.

“On behalf of the state government, I am directed by the governor to come and condole with the command and families of the deceased. On every blessed day, we lost lives in Kankara, Safana, and Danmusa LGAs.

“As tradition has it, when an officer loses his life, a token gift is given by the state government to his family,” Kankara said.

Also speaking, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Victims of Banditry and IDPs, Saidu Danja, said that the state governor directed the delegation to ensure that the token is timely presented to the deceased officers’ families to enable them to celebrate this year’s Eid-El-Kabir with ease.

“The money is in the sum of three million naira for six officers killed while in active service. These consist of the recent four police officers killed including two other officers who were also killed recently in Safana and Sabuwa LGAs,” he said.
