Lawyer reveals admissions made by Buhari Govt over Nnamdi Kanu’s arrest

Ifeanyi Ejiofor, the Lead Counsel to the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has said the Federal Government “admitted” before the Court of Appeal, Abuja, that it expended huge resources to capture and transfer separatist leader Nnamdi Kanu from Kenya to Nigeria.

POLITICS NIGERIA recalls that on June 27, 2021, Kanu was arrested in Kenya by the Interpol at the instance of the Muhammadu Buhari administration and extradited to Abuja, Nigeria where he is currently facing trial.

This newspaper had reported how the Court of Appeal in Abuja on Tuesday reserved judgement on the remaining seven count charge pending against Kanu.

The panel reserved its decision after it listened to lawyers in the case. It said a date for judgement would be communicated to the parties.

Kanu approached the appellate court, urging it to dismiss the Nigerian government’s seven counts charge bordering on terrorism and treasonable felony.

The IPOB leader is being tried before Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

“It is interesting to note that the Federal Government admitted before the court, of expending huge resources to criminally abduct and extraordinarily rendition Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from Kenya to Nigeria,” a statement signed by Ejiofor on Tuesday evening reads in part.

“The Federal Government further admitted viva voce, that they have amended the charges seven times, which is a clear indication and admission that they do not have any case whatsoever against Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

“They are only interested in keeping him in custody indefinitely, but the Court of Appeal is their final bus-stop.”
