Malami reiterates FG’s stance on herders’ planned suit against South govs

The Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami has maintained that the apex government is supporting moves by herdsmen to sue southern governors over the anti-open grazing bill they recently signed into law — based on the Nigerian constitution.

Malami stated this on Wednesday while fielding questions from State House correspondents at the end of the virtual Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

“Well, on the issue of farmers/ herders clashes, no position was taken by the Office of the Attorney General outside the scope of constitutional provisions.

“The position of the Office of the Attorney General is about freedom and liberty of movement among others.

“And what the Office of the Attorney General has simply succeeded in doing is making a reference to relevant constitutional provisions and established a position that each and every Nigerian is entitled to freedom of movement simpliciter.

“So, the issue is whether that freedom of movement is constitutionally guaranteed, or is not. And my answer to it is, the freedom of movement is indeed, constitutionally guaranteed.”

Crisis between farmers and herders across various parts of Nigeria has become a recurring issue, hence pro and anti open grazing discourse cropping up.

  1. Malami do as you want nothing last forever tomorrow is not too far from today, herders first class citizens with the right to exist, hevean and hell are watching, try to accomplish all missions but no mistake ooooo Sir

  2. Mr Malami, cow rearing is a personal business, why are you giving it a national colouration,as if it’s crude oil,or are you telling me the revenue accured from rearing of cows,is been shared among the three tiers of government every month? Mr Malami, freedom of movement does not give the Herders the right to destroy other people farms in the name of rearing cows, just as your cows are your means of livelihood, same applies to the farm u are destroying, some people depend on them to survive.
