Ministerial nominees: List of states to produce more than 1 minister emerges

Following the 19 more names as ministerial nominees sent to the Senate by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, some states will likely produce more than one minister after the screening exercise by lawmakers.

According to section 147(3) of the 1999 constitution, the “President shall appoint at least one minister from each State, who shall be an indigene of such State”.

At the moment, the total number of ministerial nominees is 47.

Below are states with more than one ministerial nominee:

  1. Ogun
  2. Katsina
  3. Kano
  4. Lagos
  5. Kebbi 
  6. Bauchi
  7. Cross River
  8. Niger

Presently, Lagos, Ogun, Kano, and Kebbi have two nominees each from the last list sent by the presidency.

Other states with one representative are Yobe, Taraba, Gombe, Bayelsa, Zamfara, Kano, Kogi, Osun, Niger, FCT, Anambra, Imo, Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia and Plateau.
