NDDC Probe: Akpabio accuses Nunieh of not having NYSC Certificate

The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has accused the former Acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Joy Nunieh, of not having the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Certificate.

He made the allegation on Monday during the House of Representatives public hearing on alleged mismanagement in the NDDC.

Testifying before the panel, Akpabio claimed that Mrs Nunieh did not participate in the mandatory one year service of the NYSC and does not have an exemption letter.

He also revealed that the late Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Abba Kyari, asked him to sack the former NDDC boss after investigation revealed that she did not possess the requisite qualifications to be lead the commission.

Akpabio added that among other reasons, Nunieh was sacked due to insubordination. He added that the commission had over 300 bank accounts when he was appointed by President Buhari.

He said, “The former Managing Director of the NDDC was relieved of her appointment when I received a letter from the then Chief of Staff (may his soul rest in peace) that she did not possess the requisite qualifications to be there.

“For instance, we have written twice to the National Youth Service Corps and twice they have insisted that she never served and that she does not have an NYSC certificate or an exception.”
