Obi, Yesufu, LP leaders under fire over alleged misuse of ₦12bn campaign fund

The Labour Party (LP), led by Julius Abure, has called for a comprehensive investigation into alleged financial misconduct involving Aisha Yesufu, Pastor Itua Ighodalo, Peter Obi, and Afenifere leaders.

At a press conference in Abeokuta, Ogun State, LP’s National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, accused the figures of misappropriating funds from the 2023 presidential campaign.

Arabambi claimed that over ₦12bn and $15m in donations were mismanaged and diverted. He dismissed Yesufu’s denials as attempts to obscure the truth and labelled her statements as an insult to the party’s leadership.

“Peter Obi allegedly hired Aisha Yesufu, Pastor Itua Ighodalo, and Afenifere members to commit looting, criminal conspiracy, and diversion of funds,” Arabambi alleged.

He also implicated Afenifere leaders, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, Akin Osuntokun, and Sola Ebiseni, accusing them of retaining over ₦600m in private accounts linked to the organisation.

Arabambi has called for an investigation into all related bank accounts to uncover the extent of the alleged fraud.

In response, Dr. Yunisa Tanko, National Coordinator of the Obedient Movement, labelled the accusations as unfounded, asserting that an audited account of the campaign funds showed no discrepancies.

Afenifere’s Deputy Leader, Oba Oladipo Olaitan, stated he was unfamiliar with the allegations but indicated a possible response in the future.
