“Peter Obi, Atiku want to burn down Nigeria” – Dumebi Kachikwu

The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the 2023 election, Dumebi Kachikwu has accused his counterparts of the platform of the Labour Party and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar respectively, of planning to “burn down” Nigeria.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that both Atiku and Obi have obtained an order to challenge the outcome of the February 25 election which they alleged was marred by fraud and other irregularities.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on March 1 declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Tinubu as the winner of the election but the PDP and the Labour Party candidates are contesting the outcome.

They subsequently filed separate ex parte applications at the Appeal Court, praying to be granted access to inspect sensitive materials that INEC used for the conduct of the presidential poll.

But reacting to the outcome of the election, Kachikwu asked the opposition candidates to come together “to make sure that Nigeria work”.

“There are two options before us (the ADC),” Kachikwu told Punch in an interview published on Wednesday. “We can go the Labour Party or the PDP route, which is to burn down Nigeria.

“What this also means is that denying that someone has won, start a protest and hope that the protest consumes the country so that we can have an interim government or something. Or we can then come together as an opposition, chart a way forward, define a clear-cut agenda for Nigerians and also urge the winning party to chart an agenda that we will hold them accountable to.

“We must understand that Nigeria and Nigerians are bigger than political parties and the egos and ambitions of individuals. Our country at this point is challenged. Our economy’s in tatters. Security failed, our youths are unemployed, the poverty index is at an all-time high, and infrastructure deficits all-time high.

“We are challenged because we have failed in all sectors critical to human development. We must now come together as a people to make sure that Nigeria work.”
