Boss Mustapha, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) on Tuesday night visited Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), at his home in Abuja.
While there are speculations that the visit has a political motive in connection with the forthcoming 2023 presidential election, POLITICS NIGERIA gathered that Mustapha only paid a condolence visit to Atiku.
Rumours of Mustapha throwing his weight behind Atiku accelerated yesterday night when the picture of both men shaking hands surfaced online. This is largely due to the fact that the SGF is not part of Bola Tinubu’s APC campaign council.
His exclusion, this newspaper gathered, was at the instance of his principal, President Muhammadu Buhari.
Recall this newspaper had reported last week that the presidential hopeful lost a long-serving aide, Barrister Abdullahi Nyako.
Reacting to the death, Atiku said late Nyako was “a family” to him.
Mustapha, former Vice-President Atiku, and the deceased all hail from Adamawa State.
Earlier on Tuesday, Atiku was in Enugu State where he engaged PDP South-East stakeholders.
Atiku restated his love for Igbo people which he said led to his choice of ‘Igbo men’ as running mates in 2019 and for the 2023 presidential election.
Also, he reassured south-east people of his commitment to restructure Nigeria and enthrone true federalism.
