Should Tinubu be sworn-in? Elders Forum finally speaks

Elders in Nigeria have finally revealed their position concerning Bola Tinubu’s swearing-in. According to them, the president-elect can take oath of office while election cases are still in court.

Politics Nigeria reports that the national president of the Patriotic Elders Forum of Nigeria, Bature AbdulAziz, disclosed this to journalists in Kano state on Saturday, May 13.

He argued that the law permitted him and any governor-elect to proceed with the ceremony.

He said

“Why are you calling for the suspension of swearing-in? What you are asking for, has it any position in the law or in the Nigeria history? So, why are some people killing themselves in the name of trying to stop the swearing-in, this is baseless, they are speaking out of ignorance.”

Recall that the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, and his Labour Party counterpart, Peter Obi, had approached the court to challenge the outcome of the February 25 presidential elections.

AbdulAziz made this known as five residents of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, approached the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court for an order to halt the ceremony.

“A declaration that no candidate in the February 25 presidential election in the country may validly be declared elected President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria without that candidate obtaining at least 25% of the votes cast in the FCT, Abuja,” the Abuja residents told the court.
