‘Spend Responsibly, Don’t Borrow to Buy Sallah Ram” Imam Warns Muslims

Ahead of the Sallah break to celebrate the 2023 Eid, the Chief Imam of Ar-Razzaq Mosque at Tanke in Ilorin, Malam Muhammad Adewoyin, has advised the Muslim faithful to be responsible in their spending during the celebration.

Adewoyin, while speaking with reporters on Tuesday, also advised that Muslims should not borrow to buy the Sallah ram.

He explained that sacrificing an animal during Sallah symbolises obedience and devotion to Allah, but borrowing to fulfil this obligation imposes an unnecessary financial burden on oneself.

Adewoyin maintained that Salah is not an opportunity to show off affluence or materialism, but celebrating with friends and family during the Salah period is Islamically recognised.

He also pointed out that Muslims don’t need to purchase new clothes or engage in lavish spending solely to celebrate SalLah.
