Sports minister summons NFF over Super Eagles poor display in World Cup qualifiers

Following the Super Eagles’ disappointing performances in the recent 2026 World Cup qualifying series, Minister of Sports Development, John Enoh, has summoned the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to provide a detailed technical report.

The Super Eagles managed to secure only one point from their last two matches, resulting in a 1-1 draw against South Africa and a 2-1 defeat to Benin Republic.

The outcomes have left the Eagles with just three points from a possible 12 in Group C, jeopardizing their qualification prospects for the 2026 World Cup.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the results, Enoh emphasized the need for a comprehensive analysis, considering the substantial support extended by President Bola Tinubu’s administration and the positive working relationship between the Ministry of Sports and the Nigeria Football Federation.

In a statement released by the minister’s office, it was highlighted that the technical report is essential to assess the team’s performance objectively and identify areas for improvement.

The Super Eagles’ recent setbacks have prompted concerns among football enthusiasts and stakeholders.

The report requested by Minister Enoh is expected to provide valuable insights and recommendations to address the challenges encountered during the World Cup qualifying campaign.
