Teenager jailed for 2 years, 3 months for attempted theft in Lagos

Chief Magistrate Bola Osunsanmi of Ikeja Magistrate Court sentenced a teenage boy, Ishola Yusuf, on Tuesday for attempted theft.

According to the verdict, Yusuf will spend two years and three months in Borstal Correctional Centre in Abeokuta.

The magistrate handed down a three-month sentence for trespassing and a two-year sentence for attempted theft.

She also held that the sentence would run concurrently without the option of a fine.

“It will serve as a deterrent to others,” she said.

During court proceedings, the prosecutor, ASP Raji Akeem, told the court that the offence was committed on November 28, 2022, at 20 Salumonu Street, Agege, Lagos.

Akeem said, “The convict was arraigned on December 2, 2022, pleaded guilty, and has been in the correctional facility since then.

“He scaled the fence of Mr Ben Njoku’s house with intent to steal and was caught before committing the crime.”

The offence contravened Sections 168 and 406 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
