President Bola Tinubu has convened another Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, just 24 hours after the last session.
The meeting, which commenced at 1:26 p.m. on Tuesday, is the second leg of a two-day marathon session aimed at clearing a backlog of memos.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, had on Monday said the meeting was necessary due to the large number of memos that had accumulated since December.
He said, “So we want to say that tomorrow there will be another press briefing after the FEC meeting.”
In attendance at the meeting are Vice President Kashim Shettima, Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume, the President’s Chief of Staff Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, and the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack. Ministers and ministers of state were also present, along with representatives from various ministries, departments, and agencies, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
It can be recalled that on Monday’s session, the council approved N4.8 billion for the Presidential Treatment Programme, which will provide 150,000 HIV treatment packs from February to May 2025. The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate, explained that the resolution was a response to recent U.S. policy changes affecting Nigeria’s health programs, particularly regarding HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria funding.
