BREAKING: NJC commences screening of 22 justices for Supreme Court vacancies

The Nigerian Judicial Council (NJC) has commenced a rigorous screening process for 22 nominated justices aiming to occupy vacant seats on the Supreme Court Bench.

According to Sahara Reporters, the high-stakes evaluations are underway at the NJC’s boardroom, with several justices already present for this critical phase.

The panel’s intense deliberations are anticipated to span a week, culminating in the final selection of 11 justices from among the 22 nominees.

The vacancies emerged after the retirement of Justice Amina Augie, leaving the Supreme Court with only 11 serving justices.

The Federal Judicial Service Commission (FJSC) previously nominated 22 justices from diverse regions across Nigeria.

The nominees include multiple justices from various states within the South-East, South-West, South-South, North-Central, North-East, and North-West regions, showcasing a concerted effort to ensure national representation.
