The Oyo State Police Command has revealed the reason its officers manned the Agodi GRA residence of late former Governor of the state, Abiola Ajimobi.
This newspaper had reported how police operatives from the command took over the residence in the early hours of Sunday.
But speaking to reporters in Ibadan, the command spokesperson, Mr Olugbenga Fadeyi, said the decision to deploy officers to Ajimobi’s residence was to protect lives and property.
Fadeyi, however, disclosed that the order to dispatch operatives to the property was from the Police Headquarters, Abuja.
He said: “Today being the day for the burial of the former Governor, Operations order was released from Police headquarters to provide adequate security for dignitaries that will grace the occasion.
“The Police is for protection of lives and properties and will not allow hoodlums to unleash mayhem of important dignitaries.”
The late Ajimobi has been buried according to Islamic rites in his Oluyole residence in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, on Sunday.
