Kano High Court restrains police from harassing ward officers who suspended Ganduje

A Kano High Court has issued an ex parte order preventing the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Zone 1 Kano, and the Commissioner of Police, Kano, from inviting, arresting, or harassing All Progressives Congress (APC) Ward officers at Ganduje Ward, Dawakin-Tofa local government area of Kano state.

The order comes amid tensions following the suspension of Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the party, by the ward executives, a move later overturned by the state working committee.

The court presided over by Justice Yusuf Ubale Muhammad, granted the order on May 2, 2024, in response to a motion filed by factional ward officers seeking protection from alleged intimidation.

The applicants, represented by their counsel Shamsu Ubale Jibrin Esq, argued for safeguarding their fundamental human rights as guaranteed by the constitution.

The order restrains the APC National Working Committee (NWC), the state council of the party, and Ganduje from using security operatives to arrest or detain the ward executives until the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.

The court also set the next adjourned date for June 5, 2024, to further deliberate.
