“The scales have fallen off your eyes” – Onanuga chides ex-SGF Lawal over Obi’s defection

Bayo Onanuga, the special adviser to President Bola Tinubu has chided the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal over his recent remarks on Peter Obi.
Lawal, a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), had in an interview said that, he would not be defecting to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) with Obi.
Despite being a strong supporter of Obi, the former SGF also said the 2023 Labour Party flagbearer is not the only credible presidential material in the country.
“It’s not as if Peter Obi is the best product that a political party can produce to be president. There are so many other people that can make good presidential material in this country,” Lawal had said.
Reacting to Lawal’s remark, Onanuga said, the former SGF has come to terms with the reality on the ground.
Onanuga wrote in a post on X, “The scales have now fallen from the eyes of Babachir Lawal, a 2023 supporter of Peter Obi.”
According to Onanuga, the former Anambra State governor lacks the capacity to build a political party.
He alleged that Obi only thrives in political parties that hand him their presidential ticket on a platter of gold.
“He now realises that Obi, who dreads primaries, desires a consensus that benefits him alone—a philosophy seemingly ingrained in his DNA. In street parlance, it is called ‘Me only, nobody else’ or ‘I before anybody else’.
“Obi is a very selfish politician. He cannot build a political party. He goes to where other people have toiled to cook the soup and takes the biggest meat in the pot. Gbajue politician of this era!” Onanuga claimed.
