The African Democratic Congress (ADC) says it has mapped out a clear strategy to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Sunday at the official unveiling of the party in Kogi East, the North Central National Vice Chairman of ADC, Senator Tunde Ogbeha, expressed confidence that the party will win both in Kogi State and across Nigeria.
Ogbeha, who was visibly encouraged by the large turnout at the event held in Anyigba, Dekina Local Government Area, said the ADC represents hope for Nigerians weary of hunger, poverty, and insecurity.
“With what I have seen here today, it gives me great pleasure that ADC will no doubt secure the future of Kogi east and by extension the future of Kogi as a state,” he said.
According to him, Kogi East has the numbers and the people’s support to rewrite the story of the state and the nation.
He noted that the APC-led administration has failed Nigerians, adding that ADC is ready to “move the country from poverty to prosperity.”
Ogbeha maintained that the party would not rely on foreign aid to address Nigeria’s security challenges.
“Our party does not require a third party from any part of the world to come and tell us how to secure our country. ADC will secure the country in the best way possible. We feel your pains and we know your desires and our party will provide your desires for you,” he said.
He further urged members to remain loyal and united, stressing that the 2027 election would be between “APC and the people of Nigeria.”
Senator Ogbeha also emphasized that ADC’s strength lies not in wealth but in the people’s will, assuring that the party would win “even without money.”
“The next general elections will not only be for ADC, but for the people of Nigeria,” he said. “If we do not indulge in anti-party activities, there is no reason why we cannot dislodge APC in Kogi state and Nigeria at large.”
The former senator also encouraged youths and women to organize and take active roles in reshaping the country’s political direction, saying their participation is key to achieving victory.
Earlier, the ADC leader in Kogi East and former Deputy Governor, Simon Achuba, said the people joined the movement to correct long-standing failures in governance.
He lamented the collapse of basic infrastructure in the state, adding that local governments are no longer serving their purpose.
“We have decided to adopt ADC to bring internal democracy to the party. ADC is a party that will prioritise the welfare, well-being, justice and the unity of our people in Kogi state,” he said.
In his remarks, the Kogi State Chairman of ADC, Kingsley Temitope Ogah, expressed optimism that the party would produce Nigeria’s next president, calling for unity among members.
Also speaking, the ADC leader in Kogi West and former Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Musa Ahmadu, urged members to stay united and work towards making Kogi and Nigeria great again.
“We should not have doubt about this coalition. This is how APC took governance of the nation from PDP. If we are determined, this coalition will be possible and it will come as a surprise to Nigerians,” he said.
On his part, the Deputy National Welfare Secretary of ADC, Mr. David Itopa, who represented Kogi Central, said the massive turnout at the event was proof that the people of Kogi East are ready for change.
He added that the ADC is the party for youths and women who want a better Nigeria.
“APC has become grossly incompetent and has put the country’s development on reverse gear. The people are no longer safe, our children’s education is in jeopardy. This can’t continue,” he concluded.
