Edo Speaker accuses APC, Uzodinma of taking over Assembly

The Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Frank Okiye, has accused some chieftains of the All Progressives Congress of plotting to destabilize the assembly and the state in general.

Okiye particularly accused the Edo APC and Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo state of planning to take over the legislative affairs of the state. He alleged that they plotting to import fake mace to take over the State Assembly.

He made this known during Wednesday plenary. He alleged that the Imo governor was working with the former Deputy Speaker, Mr Yekini Idiaye, and some APC members to take over the assembly.

Okiye said, “The dubious plan by the Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma, and stakeholders of the APC in Edo State to import fake mace to take over the Edo State House of Assembly working on cahoots with the former deputy speaker, who recently declared support for the candidate of the APC to congregate in a secret location to illegally and violently take over the control of the Assembly has been brought to our notice.”

Reacting to the allegation, Governor Uzodinma through his state Commissioner for Special Projects, Mr Simon Ebegbulem, denied the claim made by the Edo speaker.

He said: “The illegal Speaker and his governor are not making sense to me with this baseless allegation. I don’t even know what they are talking about because there is no House of Assembly in Edo State.”
