‘Expect Tougher Policies’ – Tinubu Tells Nigerians Amid Hardship

President Bola Tinubu has informed Nigerians that his government will implement more tough but needful policies that will reposition governance for efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity.

Tinubu said this at the gala/award night to mark the 2023 Civil Service Week, in Abuja.

Tinubu, who was represented by the secretary to the government of the federation, Senator George Akume, solicited support for his administration while assuring Nigerians of a bright future.

“The first two policies that I announced during my inauguration, namely the removal of the fuel subsidy and the new forex regime, are already yielding positive results. We have received support and commendation from the global community for our courage in introducing these policy shifts,” he said.

“We shall, without delay, cushion the pains we experience by our people as a result of these measures, through a number of work targeted policy interventions aimed at giving adequate relief and succor to the great number of our long-suffering citizens…

“Many tough but needful policy and paradigm shifts will be in place to reposition governance for efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity. To match the expectations of this administration, the civil service must increase its reforms, set under the six pillars of the federal civil service strategy, and implementation plan 2021 to 2025 must be focused and attained.”

As he commended the head of service for adopting digitalisation in the public service, Tinubu noted that it is the gateway to efficient resource utilization.

The president said the challenges faced in Nigeria leave no option to continue on the analog front, maintaining that the civil service is the fulcrum for governance.

Tinubu also argued that there must be a paradigm shift to make policy-making and governance seamless.
