Details of the PDP Governors’ Meeting in Abuja Emerge

Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have demanded action from the federal government on the economy, naira fall, and state police.

The governors made the demand during a meeting in Abuja.

The PDP governors called for “urgent initiatives involving all sub-national governments” to tackle the nation’s economic woes.

The forum reiterated its longstanding demand for the establishment of state police forces. However, it called for appropriate safeguards to avoid any abuse or overreach by various tiers of government.

The governors also expressed alarm over the falling value of the Nigerian Naira. The forum passed a vote of confidence in the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Iliya Damagum. They further urged the NWC to put in motion the machinery for convening meetings of various party organs, including the National Executive Committee (NEC).

The state leaders met at the Oyo State Governor’s lodge in Abuja. In attendance were the governors of Oyo, Zamfara, Enugu, Adamawa, and Taraba, deputy governors of Delta, Enugu, Adamawa, Bauchi, and Plateau State, among others.
