Election: Peter Obi gives vital assurance on legal battle against INEC

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party has asked his supporters not to despair, assuring them that the battle to retrieve “our stolen mandate” was on the way.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Obi said this when he visited Jos, Plateau State on Wednesday.

Recall that Obi has a case before the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal where he is challenging the results and outcome of the February 25 presidential election. The former Anambra State governor tackled the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for several malfeasances.

“We remain committed to reclaiming our stolen mandate and turning our focus to true nation-building,” Obi told a crowd of supporters.

Meanwhile, expressing trust in the Nigerian judiciary in an interview on Channels TV on Thursday morning, Obi said, “I am confident in the judiciary.

“I am because I have stayed in court for three years when people said it was impossible for you to become a governor through the court and I became the first (to reclaim a stolen mandate).

“Remember I was impeached and again the court brought me back. And I went for interpretation where I said, ‘My tenure is not complete’.

“People said it’s impossible because somebody else had been elected but I changed it.

“So, having gone through courts, several of them, I have not had any cause to doubt the court.”
