JUST IN: Tribunal Dismisses Labour Party’s Petition in Delta State

The governorship election tribunal in Delta State has dismissed the petition filed by the Labour Party’s candidate Kenneth Pela.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the dismissal resulted from the party’s failure to apply for the required “pre-hearing” notice.

The court, which sits in Asaba, the state capital, announced the dismissal of the Labour Party’s petition in the early hours of Thursday.

This newspaper learnt that the ruling has triggered celebrations among supporters of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his camp.

Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has emphasised the sound legal foundation and factual basis of its petition filed by Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, the party’s candidate.

The party’s Publicity Secretary in the state, Mr. Valentine Onojeghuo, expressed unwavering confidence in the judiciary’s ability to ensure justice is served by restoring the people’s mandate from the hands of the “temporary placeholder” and returning it to its rightful owner.

“Onlookers can already see the palpable tension gripping the opposition PDP due to the exceptional performance of our legal team at the tribunal,” Onojeghuo added.

He further stated, “Every Deltan knows that we emerged victorious in the governorship election, except for the criminal conspiracy that undermined the choice of the people.”

Members of the Labour Party have expressed their intention to challenge the tribunal’s judgment at the Court of Appeal.
