NNPCL Speaks on Petrol Scarcity, Cites Distribution Issue

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has addressed concerns over long queues at filling stations in parts of Lagos, assuring the public that there is no fuel scarcity.

The queues, reported on Monday, were attributed to a “brief distribution issue” that has since been resolved.

According to The PUNCH, motorists encountered queues at stations along Ikorodu Road and Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, causing traffic congestion in Ikeja. Several stations along Obafemi Awolowo Road and Ogunnusi Road were also reportedly closed, while NNPCL stations on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway did not dispense fuel.

Reacting, NNPCL spokesperson Femi Soneye dismissed any speculation of fuel shortages.

“The recent tightness experienced in certain areas was due to a brief distribution issue in Lagos, which has since been resolved,” Soneye stated.

Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) National Vice Chairman Hammed Fashola echoed Soneye’s reassurances, suggesting the queues might be due to panic buying rather than scarcity.

“I am not in Lagos as we speak. But I heard about it too that there are queues in Lagos. It may just be panic buying. I am not sure there is fuel scarcity. People are just panicking. However, I will find out what the problem is,” Fashola said.
