Police commissioner Uche Henry elected chairperson of Interpol Africa cybercrime working group

Uche Henry, a Commissioner of Police in Nigeria, has been elected as the Chairperson of the African Working Group on Cybercrime by the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol).

The appointment was made during the 10th Africa working group meeting on cybercrime for heads of units, held in Abuja from April 29 to May 3.

Henry, who oversees the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) national cybercrime centre, succeeds Ratjindua Tjivikua of Namibia.

Having been appointed as the director of the NPF cybercrime unit in 2022, Henry brings a wealth of experience to his new role.

In his acceptance speech, he reiterated his dedication to leading the group in combating cybercrimes across Africa.

He emphasized the importance of collaboration among member units to enhance collective efforts in preventing and investigating cybercrimes on the continent.

Henry also highlighted the necessity of adopting indigenous solutions to address Africa’s unique socio-cultural challenges in cybersecurity.

Henry’s election has been praised by Kayode Egbetokun, Inspector-General of Police, who sees it as a testament to Henry’s expertise in combatting cybercrimes.

Egbetokun urged Henry to make significant strides in promoting cybersecurity throughout Africa.
