Pressure mounts on President Tinubu to reinstate Betta Edu as minister of humanitarian affairs

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is reportedly under immense pressure to reinstate Betta Edu as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management.

This comes after a leaked memo showed that Edu might have been acting on instructions from the Chief of Staff to the president, Femi Gbajabiamila, when she breached civil service rules.

Also of concern is the recent disasters in the country, which some say were not adequately managed due to the absence of a minister in the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Poverty Alleviation.

Edu, a former commissioner of health in Cross River state, used to manage the ministry until her suspension.

The Arewa United Front, a prominent socio-political group, has appealed to the president to reinstate Edu, citing her unblemished record and dedication to her duties.

The group said Edu, suspended amidst investigations, has not violated any Nigerian laws.

During an interview in Kaduna, Iliya Dalhatu, spokesperson for the Arewa United Front, commended Edu’s commitment and meticulous execution of her responsibilities.

He emphasized her vital role in spearheading the National Social Intervention Programme, which he said has positively impacted Nigerians across regions.

“The Arewa United Front firmly believes that the reinstatement of Minister Betta Edu is not only crucial but also paramount in maintaining continuity and effectively addressing the pressing humanitarian challenges that our nation currently faces,” he said.

As calls for Edu’s reinstatement grow louder, the group implored President Tinubu to intervene swiftly, urging relevant authorities to expedite investigations and release their findings promptly.

  1. How can shareholder(s) forsake her? Can you imagine that N3 billion was approved for verification of national register of the poor? She was given that appointment for a purpose. It’s a ministry of syphoning money in the name of social intervention.
