1. JUST IN: Senator Koleoso is Dead

Former Oyo North Senator, Robert Koleoso is dead. Koleoso died at the University College Hospital(UCH), Ibadan on Thursday. He represented Oyo North Senatorial district from 2003 till 2007. His demise was confirmed by the Commissioner for Trade and Investment in Oyo State, Adeniyi Adebisi.

2. Bauchi Governor Recovers From Coronavirus, Tests Negative

Information reaching POLITICS NIGERIA on Thursday evening reveals that the Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed has tested negative for the deadly COVID-19 virus. Mohammed, who tested positive a few weeks back, was overjoyed after the second test result returned negative.

3. N2 Trillion SIP: “Your Claims Are Irrelevant” – Senate Fires Back At Presidency

The Nigerian Senate has fired back at the Presidency over a statement on Wednesday signed by the Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Social Investments(SIP), Maryam Uwais, criticizing the National Assembly over its recent stand on Social investment Programs. However, on Thursday, In a statement sent to POLITICS NIGERIA, the senate expressed displeasure at the response adding that it was ‘Extraneous’.

4. “Are You Paying Ghosts?” – Kalu Fires Presidency Over NSIP Payments

An honourable member of the House of Representatives, Ben Kalu has lambasted the Nigerian Presidency over the disbursement of funds under the National Social Investment Programme(NSIP). Kalu, in an interview on Channels Television on Thursday, queried the Special Adviser to the President on NSIP, Maryam Uwais on the credibility of the programme. Kalu demanded that the government reveal to Nigerians the names of people that were paid and the register/criteria used in disbursing the funds.

5. “I Don’t Have A Facebook Account” – Peter Obi Raises Alarm Over Fraudsters

Former Vice Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Peter Obi has raised alarm over the activities of fraudsters impersonating him on Social Media. According to a statement on Thursday by his Media Adviser, Valentine Obienyem, the former governor has no Facebook account neither will he carry out any empower program via social media.

6. Buhari Pardons 2,600 Prisoners Amidst Coronavirus

No fewer than 2,600 prisoners have been pardoned by President Muhammadu Buhari as part of measures to decongest prison facilities in the country. In a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, said 70 pardoned inmates will be processed and released today from Kuje maximum correctional centre. Aregbesola added that other inmates will be also be released from other correctional centers across the country.

7. Nigeria Records 14 New Cases Of Coronavirus As Tally Hits 288

Nigeria has recorded 14 new cases of COVID-19 as the official number of cases so far hits 288. This is according to a statement issued by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC. The NCDC also issued an apology for erroneously reporting 2 new cases of the virus in Bauchi on Wednesday.

8. COVID-19: Identities Of 13 Nigerians Who Died Abroad Revealed

The identities of 13 Nigerians who lost their lives to COVID-19 in the United Kingdom and the United States have been revealed. The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) made the revelation in a 55-second video clip shared on Thursday via its Twitter handle. According to the commission, the breakdown of the figure shows that eight persons died in the UK while five others died in the US. POLITICS NIGERIA reports that they comprise eight males and five females, including a medical doctor, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, and a clergyman among others.

9. Easter Celebration: Lagos Govt Speaks On Relaxing COVID-19 Lockdown

The Lagos State government has dismissed rumors that it has relaxed the COVID-19 lockdown in the state ahead of the Easter celebration. Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, gave the dismissal while addressing journalists during the inter-ministerial media briefing on Thursday. He said that the restriction of persons and vehicular movement is still in place in the state, adding that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has not relaxed any lockdown.

10. COVID-19: Nigerian Doctors Issue Warning, List Reasons For Rejecting Chinese Doctors

The Nigerian Medical Association has issued a fresh statement rejecting the Nigerian Government’s move to enlist the help of Chinese Doctors in battling the COVID-19 Pandemic in the country. On Wednesday evening, 15 Doctors arrived from China aboard Airpeace along with medical supplies to help with the fight against Coronavirus in Nigeria.
