JUST IN: APC candidate wins AMAC chairmanship election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Christopher Maikalangu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the elected chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).

Prof. Andrew Abue, collation officer for AMAC, announced that Maikalangu, the incumbent chairman, scored 40,295 votes out of 62,861 valid votes cast to emerge winner of the election.

Abue said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) came second with 12,109 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) polled 3,398 votes.

He said the number of rejected votes was 2,336, bringing the total votes cast to 65,197.

Abue added that the number of registered voters in AMAC stood at 837,338, while 65,676 voters were accredited for the poll.

“That Maikalangu of the APC, having certified the requirements of the law is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected,” he said.

Abue listed the results of the 15 political parties that contested the election.

  1. Agbon Vaniah of the Accord (A) polled 403 votes.

2. Nemiebika Tamunomiesam of the Action Alliance (AA) secured 108 votes.

3. Paul Ogidi of the ADC scored 12,109 votes.

4. Richard Elizabeth of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) garnered 588 votes.

5. Christopher Maikalangu of the APC polled 40,295 votes.

6. Eze Chukwu of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) secured 1,111 votes.

7. Chukwu Promise of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) polled 122 votes.

8. Ugoh Michael of the Action Peoples Party (APP) scored 32 votes.

9. Thomas Happiness of the Boot Party (BP) secured 43 votes.

10. Jibrin Alhassan of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) polled 1,694 votes.

11. Samson Usani of the National Rescue Movement (NRM) secured 73 votes.

12. Dantani Zanda of the PDP polled 3,398 votes.

13. Iber Shimakaha of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) scored 90 votes.

14. Simon Obinna of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) garnered 2,185 votes.

15. Madaki Robert of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) secured 421 votes

16. Swani Buba of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) polled 189 votes.
