ADC Vows to Hold Congresses, Convention Amid INEC’s Refusal to Recognise Leadership

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has affirmed its determination to go ahead with its scheduled congresses and national convention, despite uncertainties over recognition by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Speaking on Thursday during an interview, ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the party had submitted the mandatory 21-day notice for its activities, which INEC acknowledged.

Abdullahi stressed that the party would not suspend its internal processes, asserting that it remains committed to holding its congresses and national convention as planned.

He also voiced concern over what he described as mounting threats to Nigeria’s democracy, cautioning against moves to restrict political competition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The remarks follow INEC’s removal of David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola from its portal as ADC National Chairman and National Secretary, respectively.

The commission further stated it would not recognise Nafiu Bala Gombe, who is seeking recognition through the courts.

Abdullahi said, “If we were under a military regime, we could understand it. But we are seeing everything being done to make the 2027 election a fait accompli, leaving Nigerians with no choice. History has shown how this ends.”

“We have given INEC the 21-day notice, and it has been accepted. So whether they attend or not, we will continue with our congresses and convention.”

“We are all Nigerians. We can see our democracy unraveling before our very eyes.”
