“Why Kenneth Okonkwo has been abusing Peter Obi” – Senator Victor Umeh

Senator Victor Umeh, a chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has explained the reason behind recent attacks on Peter Obi by Nollywood actor and lawyer, Kenneth Okonkwo.
Umeh attributed the attacks to Okonkwo’s preference for transactional politics, which Obi strongly rejects.
The senator made the remarks during an interview with Trust Television on Thursday, May 21, 2026.
He revealed that he had previously cautioned Okonkwo against attacking the former Anambra State governor.
“Kenneth Okonkwo was busy raining curses on Peter Obi. I had private discussions with him and warned him not to do what he is currently doing, because he would regret it.
“But he told me he would never work with Peter Obi again — that it’s over his dead body,” Umeh said.
Umeh described Obi as a different kind of politician who refuses to engage in vote-buying or monetary inducements.
“I have worked with him for years, and he will never give you money to vote for him,” he said.
“Anyone who has ever worked with Obi knows that he would never bribe his way to serve the people. Peter Obi has said he will never engage in transactional politics or use money to buy positions to serve the people. That’s why they’re against him,” he said.
