The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced the commencement of free train services across the country.
The free train services are expected to begin from Thursday December 21, 2023 to Thursday January 4, 2024.
The announcement comes few hours after the federal government declared a 50 percent slash in the cost of transport to enable Nigerians travel for Christmas and new year festivities.
A statement by the NRC seen by Politics Nigeria reads: “Passengers are advised to obtain their free tickets via the online e-ticketing platforms only.
“Tickets will not be issued at any of the corporation’s train stations. Please note that no commuter will be allowed to board the train without a ticket.
“We enjoin commuters to be orderly, obey security personnel and the laid down boarding instructions of the NRC and those of its officials while at the station and on board the trains.
“We wish all our esteemed customers a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year in advance.”

The word free train across the Country is not so because there is no train station or rail way in the south East region so it is better to use the word across the South west & the North. It is very bad & you want people from that region to believe in one Nigeria.
I understand the situation even in the southwest and north you mentioned it only cater for less than 10%.It would have been greatly more beneficial if free road facilities is added. However, bringing the issue of one Nigeria into this matter is not necessary. Until the southeast begin to realize that the issue of one Nigeria is a necessity, their political setbacks may continue to linger.

You need to make finding and just stop this hatred. All the luxurious bus that was budgeted to carry about five millions is for south south and south east. What of we in kogi for example, no train from lagos and no bus allocation. Always appreciate good things and speak against bad ones

The free train services is for North and south west, no train in South -south/east after 24years of democracy, the marginalization is noted.

NRC directed would-be travellers to obtain their free tickets online; whereas, the NRC App did not include Lagos-Ibadan stations and other stations all over Nigeria, except that of Abuja – Kaduna axis. Where will travellers, apart from those in Abuja-Kaduna axis get their tickets, since tickets will not be issued at the stations?
How long are we be fooling ourselves in the name of pallatives . You quote know that this free train issue is not going to be effective in the south. Why are you inplement sentimental decision. It will only favour northerner.
