1. President Buhari nominates dead man into Federal Character Commission

Fresh information made available to POLITICS NIGERIA reveals that a candidate nominated by President Muhammadu Buhari for a position in the Federal Character Commission is dead. It was gathered that Tobias Chukwuemeka Okwuru, who was nominated into the board by the president had died in February 2020.

2. Presidency speaks on Buhari’s appointment of Dead Person

The Nigerian Presidency has issued a statement on President Muhammadu Buhari’s appointment of a dead man into the Federal Character Commission board. On Tuesday, the President sent a list of nominees for appointment to the Senate for confirmation. Amongst this list was Tobias Chukwuemeka Okwuru, an Ebonyi state Lawmaker that died in February 2020. However, in a statement made available to POLITICS NIGERIA on Wednesday, shared by Presidential aide on social media, Lauretta Onochie, the presidency claims that Mr Okwuru was alive when President Buhari appointed him a member of the FCC.

3. Ebonyi Govt confirms appointment of dead official by Buhari

The Ebonyi state government has acknowledged the fact that President Muhammadu Buhari appointed a dead man, late Tobias Chukwuemeka Okwuru, into the Federal Character Commission (FCC) board. Speaking to this paper on Wednesday morning, the Chief Press Secretary to Ebonyi state Governor, Francis Nwanze, made it known that it is a common knowledge that Mr Okwuru had died. Although he does not want to be quoted verbatim, Mr Nwanze stated that he is aware of the recent appointment by the Federal Government.

4. Mysterious Deaths: Presidency speaks on ongoing verbal autopsies in Kano

The Presidency has said the ongoing verbal autopsies in Kano state will explain the mysterious deaths in the Northern state. In a statement on Wednesday by President Muhammadu Buhari’s spokesperson, Garba Shehu, the finding will identify the precise cause of the sudden deaths in recent days in the state.

5. FG releases timetable, orders Banks to re-open on Monday

The Nigerian government has revealed that bank branches are to resume operations on Monday, adding that they are to operate from 8 a.m to 2 p.m daily. This was announced by the presidential task force on COVID-19 today during its daily briefing aired on Channels Television. The national coordinator of the task force, Sani Aliyu said banking halls in Lagos, Abuja and Ogun states would be open to customers daily between 8 am and 2 pm.

6. Fatimah Badami is dead, Gov. Fintiri mourns

The mother of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa state, Hajia Fatimah Umar Badami, is dead. In a statement on Wednesday sent to POLITICS NIGERIA by the media aide to the governor, Mr Solomon Kumangar, the 68-year-old community leader lost her life to a protracted sickness. The statement noted that Hajiya Badami died on Wednesday morning at the Federal Medical Centre, Yola.

7. It’s wrong to publish names of cash palliative beneficiaries – Minister

Nigeria’s minister of Humanitarian Affairs, disaster management and social development, Sadiya Umar-Farouk, has said it is wrong for the Government to publish the name of citizens who benefited from the Coronavirus cash palliatives. She disclosed this while speaking at Wednesday’s Presidential taskforce briefing on COVID-19.

8. Lockdown Relaxation: FG to regulate number of passengers in taxis, buses

The Nigerian government has said it will regulate the number of passengers that buses and taxis will convey as from next week. The national coordinator of Coronavirus presidential task force, Sani Aliyu said this during a brief on Wednesday afternoon. He said curfew will be relaxed at different motor parks in Lagos, Ogun and the Federal Capital Territory.

9. COVID-19: Infected health workers working from sick bed – NCDC

The Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Chikwe Ihekweazu, has revealed that some of the infected members of his team are working from their various sick beds. He made this known during the daily briefing of the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19 in Abuja aired by Channels TV and monitored by POLITICS NIGERIA.

10. Nnamdi Kanu appears in Live Broadcast, dispels death rumours [WATCH]

The leader of the proscribed pro-secession group, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu has appeared in a live broadcast on Facebook dispelling rumours of his death. Rumours of Kanu’s death trended on social media after self-acclaimed journalist, Kemi Olunloyo tweeted that Kanu had died in ‘Italy and was cremated’. The conspiracy theorist made good his threat by appearing in a live broadcast to dispel the rumours.
