1. Again, FG Reduces Pump Price Of Petrol To N123.5

The Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) has announced a further reduction of the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) also known as petrol from N125 to N123.50k per litre. The agency made the announcement in a statement signed by its Executive Secretary, Abdulkadir Saidu, on Tuesday. POLITICS NIGERIA recalls that the agency had on March 18 reduced the pump price of PMS from N145.00 to N125.00.

2. Buhari Reveals How To Stop Spread Of COVID-19

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday showed Nigerians one of the measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. According to pictures posted by Buhari’s media aide, Femi Adesina, on his verified Facebook page, the president was seen washing his hands as a way of encouraging the public to carry out the measure to prevent the spread of the disease.

3. FG To Give 11m Poor Nigerians COVID-19 Palliatives

The federal government has promised to give over 11 million poor Nigerians some palliatives to cushion the harsh effects of coronavirus (COVID-19). Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouk, made this known during the briefing by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 on Tuesday.

4. NCDC To Conduct 1,500 COVID-19 Tests Daily

The Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Chikwe Ihekweazu, said the agency is planning on expanding the testing capacity for Nigerians. He made this known at a press briefing organised by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 on Tuesday. POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Nigeria has recorded four new cases on Tuesday, thus raising the tally of confirmed cases to 139. Ihekweazu said many Nigerians have been complaining about testing “but the government is working towards solving it.”

5. More COVID-19 Patients To Be Discharged Soon – FG

The Federal Government has announced that more Nigerians who are victims of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) would soon be released once all their results turn out negative. Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, disclosed this on Tuesday during a media briefing by the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19.

6. COVID-19: NERC Makes U-Turn, Suspends Electricity Tariff Increase

Due to the pains suffered by Nigerians over the outbreak of coronavirus, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has suspended the proposed electricity tariff increase. Politics Nigeria recalls that NERC had announced in January that tariff across the country will be hiked from April 1, 2020. But in a statement on Tuesday, the regulator directed Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) in the country to suspend the proposed increase for now. According to the commission, the suspension is due to the adverse effects of the coronavirus which has affected the country’s economy and it will be unfair to begin the tariff increase during this trying time.

7. Peter Obi Denies Donating N1 billion To COVID-19 Relief Fund

Former vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Peter Obi has denied donating the sum of one billion Naira to fight Coronavirus pandemic. Obi in a statement on Tuesday signed by his media aide, Valentine Obienyem and sent to POLITICS NIGERIA, said he has not donated any fund. The former Anambra state governor also denied a list of purported donors to the fund which has gone viral in which his name appears as number 33 and a billion Naira indicated as the amount he has allegedly donated.

8. COVID-19: Falana Condemns Deployment Of Soldiers To Enforce Lockdown

A human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), has condemned the deployment of Nigerian soldiers to enforce the lockdown over coronavirus. This news medium reports that the Defence Headquarters on Monday said it will begin to enforce the orders of President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure a lockdown in Abuja, Lagos and Ogun states. In a statement on Tuesday, Falana said the deployment of soldiers to enforce the lockdown should be reconsidered immediately.

9. Elumelu Advises Gbajabiamila, Others To Undergo COVID-19 Test

The Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Ndudi Elumelu, has advised the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila and his other colleagues to submit themselves for the COVID-19 test. Elumelu earlier announced that he and members of his family tested negative for coronavirus after a period of isolation in London. He made this known in a statement obtained by this paper on Tuesday.

10. COVID-19: PDP Urges El-Rufai To Relax Curfew In Kaduna

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State has asked Governor Nasir El-Rufai to relax the curfew in the state. In a statement signed by the state party spokesperson, Abraham Alberah Catoh and made available to journalists, the party also prayed for the fast recovery of the governor. The party asked the Coronavirus committee led by the deputy governor, Hadiza Balarebe, to double its effort in educating the public on how to curb the virus.
